  • What is proofreading?

    Proofreading is basic spelling, punctuation, and formatting correction. Our editors use the track changes feature in Microsoft Word to show you what has been corrected in your document. You may then choose to accept or reject the changes.

  • What is copyediting?

    Copyediting involves the basic correction of spelling, punctuation, and grammar. It also includes more substantial or structural editing such as fixing confusing areas, improving transition, and eliminating wordiness. Our editors use the track changes feature in Microsoft Word to show you what has been edited in your document and make suggestions for improvement. You may then choose to accept or reject the changes.

  • What is a free sample edit?

    A free sample edit is not a full edit of a document. Only a portion of the document you submit will be edited. A sample consists of 1-3 pages. It is offered to demonstrate our editors’ skills and help you determine if you would like to order our services for your full document. Free samples usually take 24-48 hours to complete (with the exception of 3-4 days for creative documents). The free sample edit offer is usually restricted to documents 4 pages or more. However, if your full document is only 1-3 pages, we may make an exception and edit a few paragraphs as your sample. Any document under 1 page (275 words) is excluded from the free sample edit offer. Please note, our paying customers' orders take precedence over any free sample edit requests.

  • My project is confidential. Can I trust you to respect my privacy?

    Your privacy is very important to us. Our editors will not share information about you or your document with anyone else. All information you provide to us is kept in the strictest confidence, and we delete your document after 30 days (unless you request otherwise). In addition, we do not sell or give out your contact information. Even the last names of our clients who give testimonials are withheld upon request for confidentiality reasons.   • Can I see testimonials from past or current customers?

    Yes. We have posted a sample of these beginning on our home page and continuing on our testimonials page. Each testimonial was posted on our site with the client’s permission.

  • Do you offer express editing?

    Yes. We recommend you avoid ordering our services at the last minute. However, we do offer editing in 12 or 24 hours at a higher rate. Express editing is limited to documents 12 pages or fewer. If you need even faster service, please contact us.

  • How do I know you will meet my deadline? 

    Our editors take your deadline very seriously. If we feel the deadline you request cannot be met, we won’t accept the job.

  • How much will my editing project cost?

    Our rates are listed on our services pages with the exception of creative services. The rates for creative editing usually fall within a range of $.02 to $.03 cents per word depending on which editor you are working with, the size of your project, any additional services you order, and how much work your project needs. This is why we evaluate your submission and offer a free sample edit before issuing a quote.

     

    To determine the cost of your order (excluding creative documents):

    1) Divide your document's word count by 275 to find out how many pages your document has.

    2) Multiply the number of pages by the rate per page for the turnaround time you need.

  • What payment options are available?

    We take payments through PayPal.com. This service enables you to submit your payment using a credit card, debit card, or bank transfer while keeping your personal financial information private. It’s also free of charge for buyers. If you would like to know more about this service or set up an account, please visit https://www.paypal.com. Setting up an account is not required if you are paying by credit or debit card. After we send you an e-mail invoice, you must pay before the deadline agreed upon to receive your order in a timely manner. First-time customers must pay before we begin working on the order. Please note that we only take payments through PayPal.com at this time.

  • What are your hours of operation?

    You may contact us by e-mail from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST Monday-Friday. You may submit documents to us at any time of day; however, please be aware that we may not receive orders made after 7 p.m. EST until 7 a.m. EST the following day. Orders submitted on the weekend will not be received until 7 a.m. EST on Monday.

  • Can I apply to be an editor or proofreader?

    Yes. If you would like to be an independent contractor for the Writing Docs, please send your resume to jobs(at)thewritingdocs.com (replace at with @). If there are positions available, we will review your resume and send you more information. Otherwise, your resume will be kept on file for future openings. Please do not repeatedly contact us after your resume has been received.
